PMM Twelve Minute Modelsphere: September 2024

Join us in this month’s 12-Minute Model Sphere as we gear up for the Military Modelers Club of Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, happening on September 28th. We'll discuss the fantastic venue at Paroquet Springs Conference Center and the myriad attractions nearby, making it a perfect outing for the whole family. Reminisce with us about past shows and the good times shared, and learn why this location holds a special place in our hearts.

We also have fresh and exciting content lined up from Plastic Model Mojo! Starting with episode 123, now rebranded as "Shop Talk with Mike and Kentucky Dave," we promise engaging and relatable conversations on various topics. Episode 124 will feature the ever-popular "Wheel of Accidental Wisdom" segment, and we hope to have Chris Wallace from Model Airplane Maker join us for some insightful discussions. We're still taking your topic suggestions, so don't hesitate to send them our way. Tune in for all this and more in our September episodes.

Mike and Kentucky Dave thank each and everyone of you for participating on this journey with us. We are grateful for having you as listeners, and the community that has grown around Plastic Model Mojo makes it all worth while.

Mike:

Well, listeners, welcome to the September installment of the 12-Minute Model Sphere, where we give you a heads up on what's going to be happening with Plastic Model Mojo each month. And Dave, we're in September.

Kentucky Dave:

Yep, we're back into show season. The Nationals is over, We've had our little break in August and show season is coming up again for the fall.

Mike:

Well, that's what I was going to say. We've where we've been is nowhere. We've kind of taken a break. In August. There were a couple that we could have gone to, but it just wasn't in the cards, Right.

Kentucky Dave:

Well, you know, family life, stuff like that.

Mike:

That's right, but we are going somewhere this month. Yeah, not too far. We are keeping it close to home folks. We're going to be at the Invitational for the Military Modelers Club in Louisville, and Dave, when's that date again?

Kentucky Dave:

That's September 28th in Shepherdsville, kentucky, at the Pariquet Springs Conference Center. It's right off the interstate in Shepherdsville, kentucky, very close to the interstate. There's numerous hotels right close by that part of Shepherdsville has built out to the interstate so there's a lot of nice restaurants. There's a go-karting and mini golf arcade thing just down the street, so if you bring family members they can entertain themselves. It's a really nice facility. We've held numerous contests there in the past and I'll be honest with you, I'm kind of happy to see us go back because it is a real quality facility, very spacious, very well appointed, very well cared for, and so I'm looking forward to MMCL having the show back at Paracat Springs.

Mike:

I am too. I think the last time I was there.

Kentucky Dave:

I think you were a head judge.

Mike:

Yeah, I was. I was a new dad of sorts too. Wes couldn't have been more than a year or two old. God, it's been that long. That's that picture I show. Oh, I'm showing on the on the dojo every now and then, or on the on our Facebook page for the podcast, me holding that little rascal.

Kentucky Dave:

God, I didn't realize it would have been that, oh yeah.

Mike:

It's been a long time At least, since I've been. I don't know if we've had shows there that I didn't go to Probably have.

Kentucky Dave:

I don't know.

Mike:

Boy, we got old. What the heck happened? Well, dave, we've got a lot going on with Plastic Model Mojo in September. Yes, we do. We've got a couple of our regular episodes coming up. The first one's going to be episode 123. And we've been calling those the Mike and Dave Spectaculars, but we're going to rebrand those Shop Talk with Mike and Kentucky Dave and we're going to do that again, because the last one we did was pretty popular. We covered a handful of subjects and I think we're going to try to do that again.

Kentucky Dave:

Yep, I'm looking forward to you, and I've already been discussing behind the scenes some of the stuff we're going to talk about. I'm really looking forward to this one because I think that a lot of the listeners will relate to it.

Mike:

Well, our other feature episode for September is episode 124, Dave, and it's time to give the old wheel of accidental wisdom a spin again, and hopefully with Mr Chris Wallace from Model Airplane Maker. Now we haven't firmed that up quite yet, so this might be a little bit of a surprise for him when he hears this.

Kentucky Dave:

Well, good, this is the way I want him to find out.

Mike:

And we are still soliciting topics for the wheel. So if you've got some ideas, send them our way and we'll get them on there and hopefully we'll get that populated up pretty full and we'll have a good one. I think we will.

Kentucky Dave:

Yep. Email them to Mike at plasticmodelmojo at gmailcom.

Mike:

Yep, email them to Mike. Don't message them to Dave. Don't put them in the dojo. Email them to me. That way I've got an easy record. I don't have to go fishing in a lot of ponds to go find them. Well, dave, we've been doing these shorts for a little while now. We've been experimenting with some different ones, but we're going to have at least two of those. We've got three things we want to do in September that kind of fall in this category. Two of them are model show spotlights. Of course. One of them is going to be for our show coming up and another one is for a show out on the West coast that we're going to have the folks come on. One of these will probably be a standalone short and the other one may be embedded in one of the regular episodes. Sure, there's only so many weeks in September.

Kentucky Dave:

That's right.

Mike:

Now the other short we've got will probably drop within a day or two of the 12-minute model sphere because we've already recorded it and it's a short discussion that you and I had about, I guess, the current state of Fine Scale Modeler and our reaction to, their own words, some suggestions that they've solicited. We did about 20, 25 minutes on that and think it's a good thing to see where a fine scale modeler is going to go and hopefully encourage others to offer some suggestions as well as to how they can improve both their website and their total online experience.

Kentucky Dave:

Well, and I think it was a good first of all, new owners is generally a good sign. And then I think it was a good sign that they were actively saying here's the landscape, here's the history. If you've got ideas, please, we're open to listening to any and all ideas, and I think that in and of itself is a really good sign.

Mike:

Well, Dave, that's what we got in September. Hopefully we can get through it all.

Kentucky Dave:

Yeah, I think we will. It's going to be a full month.

Mike:

Well, speaking of full, the dojo just keeps growing and I don't guess it'll ever get full, but it's sure full of content and full of good models and some good conversations.

Kentucky Dave:

Yes, it is. I've been really happy with the dojo. We're up now over 4,900 members. We're closing in on 5,000. That's going to be a big celebration when we hit 5,000.

Kentucky Dave:

And again, the thing that I like most in regard to the dojos not only do we have a lot of people signed up and joining the Facebook group, we've got people participating. Something I've noted of late is we've had a fair amount of automotive content, which is great. It's not an area that I've I mean, I've always had an interest in it. I always love going by the tables at any show and the car content is very relatable because of the fact that you know we all drive cars.

Kentucky Dave:

No-transcript on the dojo car-related.

Kentucky Dave:

So I'm happy to see that Our friend, ian McCauley, recently went to an auto show and was kind enough to post photos from the auto show so that you know you got, just like if you go to Armor Fest or some armor museum or aircraft museum, same thing, except this just happened to be an auto show and so there was a lot of great reference for the automotive community.

Kentucky Dave:

So I'm happy to see that. I'm happy to see all sorts of activity on the dojo finished builds, in-progress builds, people posting questions questions about store model cases and stuff like that, recommendations for airbrushes for compressors, questions about the one I posted about VMS's super glue, which got some really good responses, and so I'm really happy with the activity because we built a community here and, like I say all the time on the podcast, modelers in general are just really some of the nicest people in the world and there is nothing more enjoyable than talking models with fellow modelers who have, you know, the same experiences, the same interests, et cetera, and the dojo has really grown to be one of those places.

Mike:

Well, folks, if you haven't joined us on Facebook at the Plastic Model Dojo, please give it a little search there in the search bar Plastic Model Dojo, and join in and start having some conversations, posting your work and let us know what you've got going on. It's all a lot of fun.

Kentucky Dave:

Absolutely. It's exceeded our wildest expectations and hopefully, like everything about Plastic Model Mojo in the year 2024, it's only going to get better.

Mike:

Well, Dave, we better wrap this up to stay close to our 12-minute limit.

Kentucky Dave:

Yes, we should, but we don't want to go under. We'll hear it from Tom Romanowski.

Mike:

So a couple of call to actions folks right into the show. We like to hear it. You can email us at plasticmodelmojo at gmailcom with any questions or comments or anything you'd like to tell us here, and get those wheel questions and topics in so we can talk about those too. And also again, please, if you haven't yet joined the plastic model dojo Facebook group, and let's kick this thing over 5,000 folks.

Kentucky Dave:

Yes, and thank all of you who are supporting the podcast on Patreon or one of the other avenues for supporting the podcast. It really means a lot and it's going to help us do a lot of things this year to make the the podcast better. All right, we'll see you soon, dave, see you soon, mike. Bye.
