Upcoming Louisville Show Plans

Well, Dave, we usually start this thing off with traveling events and uh geez, have we been anywhere? Where have we been? We've been the gnats, but I'm thinking enough of that already. I think that horse is quite dead at this point. I don't know what else to say other than uh thank you again to John Figaro and and all his extended team. One for the ages, one for the books, and uh I think from this point forward it's just gonna reside as pleasant memories in Mike and Kentucky Dave's heads. Yep. Um it's time to get on to other stuff, man. Well, we've got places to go too. We do, folks. You just heard on the model show Spotlight, September 26th, the Military Maulers Club of Louisville, our illustrious home club, is hosting their annual invitational.

And hopefully you can actually make it.

My odds of showing up are high. And even my odds of coming in early the night before and camping down near Parakat Springs Convention Center is uh looking better by the minute.

So that's great. Well, we need to make reservations because I'll I'll I'll do a rundown there too.

Okay, well, cool. So, folks, if you're in the vicinity or in a commutable distance, uh come to Shepherdsville, Kentucky for I don't know how many years we've been doing this, but it's a good location, good venue. It's gonna be a good show, man. It always is.

Yep, it's gonna be a great show. And then one of our favorite shows is in October.

Well, that's next month, though.

Yeah, no. But we'll be we'll be going there. We can tell people about it early. The Cincy show is in October. I think it's the 14th or 5th, 14th, 14th or 15th, one of those.

Well, we'll get them on and then we'll hear about that in a minute.

September Guest Lineup Preview

Well, Dave, after a month of national convention and other show talk, we're gonna pivot back to scale modeling and our regular routine here in September. So looking forward to trying to get back to some normalcy.

Are we gonna put out episodes in September?

We are. We're gonna kind of have our standard format throughout the month. We're starting with this, the uh 12-minute model sphere, and then we're gonna roll into two episodes in September. First one is our guest is gonna be Dr. Michael Poland from Knoxville, Tennessee, and he is the winner of Best Aircraft at the 2026 IPMS National Convention. Michael's a longtime listener and friend of the show, man, down in Knoxville. He reached out a few years ago. Yes. He was in town and we went and grabbed some beers.

Yep.

And it's just it was great to see him do so well at the convention. I'm looking forward to hearing about this uh Magnum Opus build of his.

I was gonna say it was a masterpiece. I mean, I'm sure people have gone online and looked at pictures from the Nationals. That thing is incredible, and I am really looking forward to talking to him about it.

Me too, man. So actually, that the recording that is hot on the heels of this thing. Yes. We got a busy week. Yes, we do. Uh no complaint. Me either. The other episode is uh undecided's a little harsh. It's most likely gonna be a shop talk with more listeners suggested topics. Depending on the scheduling of another interview, hopeful. We may be featuring a vendor who reached out to us after Nats. If not, we'll get to him in October.

Yeah, and I hope we can get that done.

But we will get it done. I just know it's gonna be the second episode for September or the first one in October. So we gotta we gotta tighten that up. But uh either way, it's gonna be modeling content either way, no matter what the second episode is.

Well, and I was thrilled to see that the the modeler who won our our giveaway got his book. Yeah he po he posted a very nice thank you on the dojo. Andrew Armstrong. Yes, and we want to keep uh those suggestions, even though the the giveaway is done for the moment, although we've got some other ones coming up. Please continue to send the suggestions in, guys. We those were very, very helpful.

And as you've already mentioned, September would not be complete content-wise without our model show Spotlight, and we're gonna be featuring the Cincinnati show. Upcoming show from a fellow Region 4 chapter.

Yep. One of our favorites.

It is, and we haven't talked to them in a little bit. So we're gonna talk to the president of the of the club, and they've got something else going on. I won't disclose what it is, but their chapter's been up to something kind of new within the IPMS, and uh we're gonna talk about that as well. So so looking forward to that, man.

Dojo Growth And How To Join

Well, man, I I'm not catching all the new members to the dojo for approval. I know you're catching some too. It's been it's been pretty, pretty rocking and rolling since the national convention, it seems like.

It has been as of this recording. We have 5,871 members of the dojo. We're closing in on 6,000. We'd like more members. So those of you out there who are listening who aren't members of the dojo on Facebook, please go on and join the plastic model dojo. And if you are already a member of the dojo, please use the invite function on Facebook to invite your modeling friends who aren't a member of the dojo to join. Because again, the bigger this community gets, the better the content gets. And I've got to say, I'm just absolutely thrilled with the content we're getting right now.

Oh, yeah.

Ed Bareth Build Updates And Questions

And I also want to mention uh that uh we we've recently posted two more chapters to Ed Bareth's uh SBD Dauntless Build and 30 Second Scale. Yeah, uh folks, if I've I've seen a lot of likes for that that announcement that that's been posted. Please, if you've got any questions for Ed or any comments about what he's done there or have any questions, not just about the build, but maybe a technique he's used or how you might do something that he's done, let us know because Ed and Plastic Model Mojo are trying to put together a little something in the near future to uh talk about that build and and what Ed's been been going on. And we've had some good comments. I know uh folks may know Bob O'Young, that's his YouTube handle. Great sci-fi scratch build, scratch print builder, was local to Ed's chapter out there and had some nice things to say about that build. So go have a look at all those chapters, and I'm about to post a new one. So Ed Ed thinks that's the best one of all. So Well, good.

I can't wait to see it.

Dojo Posting Etiquette And Show Photos

Uh other than that, it's I don't know, I hate to say it because it's our own page, our own group, but between Nats and life and work, I've been a little out of pocket on the dojo. I don't know of any notable interactions on the dojo. I'm sure there have been some and I've missed them, but I know I know we're gonna start posting our uh Arma Hawk P40 kits progress on there. You've already done some, and I'm gonna do some I'm gonna do some as well here soon.

Yeah, I want to see some pictures. There have been the the there were lots of great photos from Nats on the dojo, and immediately post Nats, there was uh a lot of really entertaining stuff. In addition, show season, fall show season is well underway, and a lot of people have been heeding our requests to post photos from local shows. If you've been doing that, I thank you. Please, we can't be at all these shows as much as Mike and I would like to quit our day jobs and just go um model show spotlighting every weekend. We can't do that. So we can live vicariously through you when you post on the dojo. There have been some really good posts, people trying different stuff. A number of sci-fi builds have been posted on the dojo of late, and I gotta say, I I'm happy to see that because I think that's a growing area. There's been a there've been a number of completions. Bill Moore just posted a really, I mean, not something you see every day. It's a truck and trailer with a radar, an integrated radar in the trailer. And it's one of those things that you know, you you walk along an armor table or soft skins table, and you see Sherman, Sherman, Sherman, Panther, Panther, Panther, you know, what's that? Abrams, Abrams, and then you come along to this thing and you're like, what the heck is that? I've never seen that before. I think it was from a trumpeter kit, although we'll sound like it, yeah. We'll we'll have to check in with Bill. But yeah, we're we're getting a lot of good, varied posts on the dojo, and I really appreciate it. The one thing I would ask is if people are linking posting things on the dojo linking to their own page, please don't put multiple posts one after the other and link because the way Facebook works is that uh you know it's a constant feed and it drives stuff off. And so if somebody posts 10 links in a row to their own page, it can drive everything that's been posted in the last 12 hours down too far. So be sparing. We like the content, we love what you're posting, just don't post all a bunch all at once if you're doing it via linking to your Facebook page.

Yes, absolutely. And Mike and I are both gonna make a commitment for him when he stops shooting things into space, and me just being more diligent, and we're both gonna try and get to the dojo a little more often.

Wrap-Up And Show Weekend Hangout
