As Autumn Cools, PMM Heats up: October Twelve Minute Modelsphere
As we slide into fall show season mode. The weather is turning, the hobby calendar is filling up. We’re talking about where we’ve been and where we’re going next including a recap of the Military Modelers Club of Louisville show in Shepherdsville and plans for the Cincinnati show at the Tri-State Warbirds Museum. We also share why vendor tables are part of the fun, even when we absolutely do not need more stuff (and still find something we “need”).
We preview what’s coming on the podcast feed too: a feature chat with John Ferdico of Hawaiian Air Depot, focused on aircraft markings files for the DIY masking community and Silhouette mask cutting, plus a 1/72 scale extravaganza we’re already excited about. We also tease our next model show spotlight with a new expo style figure show in Orlando and a veterans-focused model making workshop in College Station, Texas.
Finally, we give a quick update on the Plastic Model Mojo Dojo as it closes in on 5,900 members and we spotlight the jaw-dropping miniature painting posts that are inspiring our own use of color, highlights, and shadows. Subscribe, share this with a modeling friend, and leave a rating or review so more builders can find the show.

Mike and Kentucky Dave thank each and everyone of you for participating on this journey with us.
KitMasx Canopy Mask Sponsorship
Janelle (KitMasx)Kev, tell everyone why you started Kit Mask.
Kevin (KITMASX)Well, manually masking canopy sucks, and somebody had to step in to save those countless kits from the shelf of Doom.
Janelle (KitMasx)And now we've got over 400 sets and counting. We've got old kits, new kits, forgotten kits, you name it.
Kevin (KITMASX)Yeah. And if we don't have it, just ask.
Janelle (KitMasx)Yeah, people don't realize we take custom requests and we even have a service that gets you canopy masks for free.
Kevin (KITMASX)We do.
Janelle (KitMasx)Our masks are precision cut, they fit well, they're easy to apply. Kevin cuts and tests every set.
Kevin (KITMASX)Several times.
Janelle (KitMasx)Yeah. Precision is kind of his thing.
Kevin (KITMASX)And Janelle, she does everything else. She cares about each customer and is the heart of our business.
Janelle (KitMasx)If you ever reach out, you're talking directly to us. Real people, real modelers.
Kevin (KITMASX)And if you don't love your masks, we'll refund or replace them. No questions asked.
Janelle (KitMasx)Visit kitmask.com, join the mailing list, and treat yourself to easier, cleaner masking.
Kevin (KITMASX)Kitmask, made by a modeler for modelers.
Janelle (KitMasx)Hey, what about me?
Kevin (KITMASX)You're not a modeler.
Fall Weather And Mojo Energy
Kentucky DaveTelling you what, the weather has turned. The pool has been closed. I mowed the lawn for the last time. And fall show season's upon us. So yeah, I would say definitely welcome to the fall.
MikeWell, the weather may be cooling off. We can't let that happen to Plastic Model Mojo, man.
Kentucky DaveNo, no. We're in fact we're going to get hotter and hotter. We're going to spread the warmth throughout the fall and winter.
MikeWell, we're going to try, but before we get too far down on that, let's uh thank our folks at KitMass there for the sponsorship and uh encourage folks to give them a little business when they need canopy masks. If you use the affiliate link at plasticmodelmojo.com or in the show notes of this and every episode, you'll not only get 15% off your order, which is great, it will also help us out here at Plastic Model Mojo World Headquarters, Dave. So please check out our partners at Kit Mass up in Canada.
Kentucky DaveYes.
Where We Went And Next Shows
MikeWell, Dave, we've already got a start to this fall show season. We got our where we've been and where we're going. And where we have been is the Military Maulers Club of Louisville's annual show in Shepherdsville last weekend. We talked about that at the front end of last episode. And I think we just need to thank all those fine friends of ours again for uh putting on another good one, man.
Kentucky DaveYep, they did. I'm telling you what, I think that's uh the most fun I've had at one of our local shows in quite a number of years.
MikeSo yeah, me too.
Kentucky DaveI'm thrilled and can't wait for uh what comes in the spring because MMCL is moving their show back to the springtime. All right. Well, where are we going to be? Hopefully we're both gonna be at the Cincinnati show October, I believe it's 17th, yep, at the Tri-County Air Museum. It's a great venue, it's a great contest. I will tell you personally that I love the vendors at the Cincy show. Like I need to be buying more stuff, but I always find something I'm looking for or something I didn't know I needed, and so I'm looking forward to Cincy. Hopefully, you'll make it there. And then I'm looking forward to in mid-November down in Murfreesboro, the Middle Tennessee modeler show.
MikeI don't know about that one. Cincinnati's hopeful. I don't know about Middle Tennessee yet. That's actually another month's out in planning. So get to some shows, folks. We sure have a good time when we go.
Kentucky DaveYes, absolutely.
MikeWell,
Upcoming Feature Episodes Preview
MikeDave, we got two feature episodes in September. Good. Two good ones, I think.
Kentucky DaveYes, I'm looking forward to the second one.
MikeFirst up is gonna be episode 171, and we're gonna be talking to uh Mr. John Ferdico of the Hawaiian Air Depot. Now, this is a small business that sells uh aircraft markings files for the DIY masking community, uh mask cutting community out there. So not only's got some interesting things he's offering as far as marking schemes, but he's also got some uh instructional stuff on his website. So I think this will be popular to folks looking to get into silhouette mass cutting.
Kentucky DaveYep, we managed to make a connection at the at the nationals this year, and I'm really looking forward to the interview.
MikeAnd after that is episode number 172, and Dave, I'll give you one guess.
Kentucky DaveI'm sorry, say that again.
MikeWhat was that number? 172, Dave.
Kentucky DaveMy favorite number.
MikeI'll give you one guess as to what this one's gonna be about.
Kentucky DaveAll 35th scale armor.
MikeWell, it's gonna be a 172nd scale extravaganza, I guess. Hope, I don't know. Uh still lining things up, but they're the folks we're looking at are always available most of the time. Two past guests returning who both practice in this scale primarily, or they both approach the advantage of this scale a little differently.
Kentucky DaveWell, I'm looking forward to this. Of course, I could talk 70 second scale until your your ears fell off. So this is gonna be an episode that we're gonna have to struggle to limit the length of because seriously, I could talk forever about it.
Spotlight On November Modeling Events
MikeAnd then as a bonus, we will have our model show Spotlight again featuring November shows. Uh, we're gonna feature a new Expo Style figure show that's hitting the scene down in Orlando, Florida, that's being held in conjunction with the Amps chapter down there.
Kentucky DaveI'm really looking forward to talking to them because this is something different, and I I really want to hear about it.
MikeWell, I uh we'll find out when we talk to them, but I've got an inkling because the primary point of contact I've been talking to is going to be traveling a lot of the month of October, and which includes the uh the MMSI show in Chicago. So I think uh they must have uh have their eye on that show to some degree about what they're trying to do down in Orlando. But uh looking forward to talking to them. I am too. That's the show we're gonna feature, but we're also gonna feature an event that's coming up in College Station, Texas, that's focused on veterans and their families, and it's a model making workshop. And uh that's being organized by Don Gilman down in College Station and some of the folks around the club down there, and uh real interested to hear what they've got going on. Maybe we'll give some folks up in other parts of the United States or the rest of the world some ideas.
Kentucky DaveAbsolutely. Always interested in hearing from people who are doing something new, unusual, or different. And you know, we're here to we're here to promote that.
MikeWell,
Dojo Growth And Miniatures Inspiration
MikeDave, the dojo is always interesting. Well, give us give us an update on the what's going on, man.
Kentucky DaveWe are we are within a member of two or two of 5,900 members. It's uh going really well. The number of posts continues to grow. We're having a good variety of posts as far as in progress, completed works, show, show reports, etc. One thing I wanted to, or one subject that has there have been a number of posts on lately, and I just find really, really cool and inspiring is miniatures. By miniatures, I mean gaming miniatures, either D D style figures uh or Warhammer figures or or the the gaming style miniatures. The talent and ability of some of these folks and the work that they're posting is just flat out amazing. The things they can do with just simple brush painting and the the way that they understand color and highlight and shadow, it never ceases to to impress me. There's an alternate universe where instead of 70 second scale aircraft modeling, I end up painting nothing but these type of little mini-fake things. And because it's way cool. And the the results some of these people are getting are just flat out amazing.
MikeWell, folks, keep the content rolling through the dojo. We're sure enjoying it.
Kentucky DaveYes, please do. And please join the dojo. If you're not already on the dojo, please join and please post and contribute, and please go back regularly because you wouldn't want you to miss anything we announce.
Listener Mail And Ratings Requests
MikeWell, in closing, folks, we want to ask you to keep the listener mail rolling in. We certainly like that.
Kentucky DaveYes.
MikeBig part of the feature episodes, you can send us an email to plasticmodelmojo at gmail.com or you can utilize the Facebook Messenger. There's also a send us some mail link found in the show notes of this in each and every episode. Now, that's I recently changed this. It used to say give us some feedback, but I think that was getting confused with the ratings and review, a link I'll mention next. But please keep the emails and the messages coming. Yes. We want to talk to talk to all you folks. In addition, ratings and reviews, while I mentioned it, please leave us a five-star rating. If your podcast allows it, if not, please use the rate the show link. That's again in the show notes of this in each and every episode. And in addition to a rating, if you could, please leave us a few words of review there as well, especially if you use the rate the show rating because there's room there to do it. Uh you can leave the star rating and some commentary. Much appreciated. All that really helps us a lot. So we appreciate
Back To The Bench Closing
Mikethat. So, Dave, I think we're gonna have to get on because we've got a lot of content to kick out.
Kentucky DaveYeah, not only that, but occasionally we need to model. That's right.
MikeLet's get to the bench.
Kentucky DaveYou got it.
