Best scale modeling podcast to listen to! Listening to Mike and Dave is like hanging out at the local (long gone) hobby shop. You went in there for a tube of glue or jar of paint and ended up spending the whole afternoon listening to great stories, laughing a lot, and learning new techniques.

Model trains have been my focus in recent years, but Dave and Mike rekindled my interest in plastic models. Great advice, information and encouragement. I look forward to each show. Very listenable and well organized.

On and off lifetime modeler ( even built an italeri elephant underway on a navy ballistic missile sub in 1990 ! ) but now in my 50s my eyesight has deteriorated to the point of legal blindness. Not wanting to throw in the towel im using various magnifying visors, On your latest pod you touched on some various magnifiers but im hoping that you guys could go in depth on vision helpers and maybe some tips tricks for mr magoo modellers like myself. Keep up the great work gentleman!

“My favorite modeling podcast. It’s nice to see two people come at the hobby from completely different approaches (scale, genres, old versus new kits, etc), which helps keep the show interesting. Episode 63 (Ed Baroth) is great. So is episode 76, Waxing Nostalgic. But…they’re all good.”

Mike Baskette
Mike first experienced the hobby of scale modeling building a Monogram B-24 with his father. This experience soon had him building on his own, building most of Monogram’s 1/48th scale WW2 fighters at least once, and quite a few Revell, Airfix, and MPC along the way. It was mostly planes, but a few ships, and even some 1/76 and 1/72nd scale military vehicles. The latter were to augment his collection of AIrfix HO/OO soldiers, which were used to fight just about every major battle of WWII on the family billiard table.
It was all typical “kid modeling” until the summer of 1981, when Mike found a copy of Military Modeler magazine on a newsstand shelf while on summer vacation. From that point it was 1/35th scale armor all the time. Discovering FineScale Modeler magazine shortly after, furthered his interest in skills and techniques development, building on his love of the hobby.
Since those early days, Mike has had some on and off seasons in scale modeling, as well as a number of years in model railroading serving as a distraction. Now with the help of the Plastic Model Mojo podcast and the community that has grown around the show, Mike’s enjoyment of the hobby is at an all time high!
